Your Guide for Planning a Kitchen Remodel

May 2, 2022
A Kitchen that has been remodeled

When you are planning any refurbishment of your home, no matter how small, you need a comprehensive strategy for getting the job done the right way.

This strategy will often start with an inspiration, continue with a thought-out plan, and end with your completed vision.

If you are planning for a more sophisticated upgrade then it is probably best to go with a professional, however, if your refurbishment is on the smaller side, there are many different upgrades you can pursue yourself.

But how do you create a plan for your remodel?

In this post, we will walk you through building a plan to upgrade your home, specifically focused on remodeling your kitchen.

Your Complete Guide to Remodeling Your Kitchen

Before you begin, you need to consider your style and what you want out of your kitchen. How often do you cook and eat there? What about other activities? Does your kitchen see a lot of dirt and grime or is it relatively sterile?

If you can determine your lifestyle and fashion needs, then that will help you decide what your finished kitchen will look like.

Once you have a rough idea of the finished product, you can begin crafting your plan.

Use the tips below:

Begin with a Budget

Before you can break ground on your project, you need to allocate specific funding to get it done. Ideally, you will have already decided the scale and goals of your project. If you know that information, it will help you determine a rough budget.

Even if you cannot say for certain the exact dollar amount you wish to spend, a rough ballpark estimate will help you determine a range.

Research and Research Again

Perhaps the most important stage of your project remodeling, thorough research is a must if you want to end with a finished product that you love.

Look into the types of materials you want to use. Search through different styles and designs. It will help you in the long run if you have a few picture examples to work from too.

Look into Hidden Costs

The cost of labor and materials are obvious but think a little deeper. What about taxes, and shipping or delivery? Maybe even consulting fees? These small costs can add up quickly so keep them in mind when you are setting your budget.

Quality over Quantity

Many people want to do one big kitchen remodel and then not worry about it again for many, many years. Do not fall into this trap. It is much better to undertake a smaller, higher-quality upgrade this year than many upgrades that you will need to replace in a short time.

Needs over Wants

We all want the newest technology and the classiest designs, but you must prioritize keeping your kitchen working for your lifestyle over appearances and wow-factor. For example, if your kitchen sink is starting to go, or your counters are not what they used to be, you need to replace those before you install brand new floors or a stunning archway.

Create a Complete Layout

Above all else, your kitchen needs to be functional. Most other rooms in your house can prioritize style over utility, but your kitchen cannot afford this same luxury. Consider the current layout of your kitchen. Chances are that your sink, refrigerator, and dishwasher are not going anywhere. This is also true of more stable appliances and structures like islands.

Take some time and sketch out the layout of your kitchen. What is stationary? What can be moved? Where can you add new features?

Make these determinations and you will be able to better decide on a comprehensive strategy for your kitchen remodel.

Planning a Better Kitchen for a Beautiful Home

Your kitchen can be one of the most stylish and useful rooms in your home if it is designed properly. Because of this, homeowners looking to upgrade their homes often focus on the kitchen.

However, when planning a remodel for your kitchen you need to create a comprehensive strategy before you start.
