The Role Historical Societies Play in Restoring and Maintaining Old Homes

Buildings and structures all across America carry the history of our nation and culture. These buildings tell a story about our past and were built with techniques that are no longer considered useful due to the evolution of construction technology. However, even though these structures were built using now-out dated construction methods, they hold beauty and intricacy that even the highest quality homes and buildings of today struggle to match.

Restoring Century-Old Homes: 5 Factors to Consider

When looking back at home architecture over the last one hundred-plus years, there are few homes more beautiful than those built around the turn of the century.

These homes were built around 1900, a time fraught with conflict, innovation, and expanding industrialization. The availability of mass-produced home materials and recently built railroad lines meant that easily replicated styles became popular, contributing to designs that still hold great beauty today.

Victorian Porch Restoration Project: Complete

Welcome back to the final update on one of the most fascinating projects the Old School Craftsman team has worked on in recent memory.

Myself, Brent Sears, and my son are so pleased that you could accompany us on this journey. From a once-stunning porch that fell to ruin, to a vibrant and refurbished masterpiece, the Victorian porch is truly a sight to behold.

A pergola behind the words "Beautiful Outdoor Builds That Transform Your Yard"

At Old School Craftsman, we love outdoor projects.

There is nothing better than working with a homeowner to design and build a unique structure that totally transforms their yard. Even smaller structures can make a big difference when it comes to how you and your guests perceive your home.

Victorian Home Restoration

If you know anything about the Old School Craftsman team, then you know we love (and I mean LOVE) vintage craftsmanship. Our name is Old School Craftsman, after all.

So, when we were contracted to restore and preserve this lovely Double Porch on this beautiful Victorian home and to once again work with our favorite architect Tom Wilcox of Wilcox Architecture, we were thrilled to provide a “Team Approach” we bring to this project as we have to  so many in the past 30 years.

A pool house behind a swimming pool

Your pool is one of your favorite features of your home.

However, if you are looking to upgrade your pool space, it can be difficult to know what to do. After all, your pool is already a pristine oasis, how can it get any better?

A toilet next to a sink in a decorated bathroom

Will my home renovation increase the value of my home? When it comes time to sell my home, how do I recalculate the value of my home?

These are both great questions and ones that the Old School Craftsman team commonly hears.

Back patio with outdoor furniture and pergola

If you have had your heart fixed on a major remodel for your home, then it is worth it to save up for the project and invest in the best craftsmanship you can find.

However, no two craftsmen are built the same. Even the best craftsmen have unique strengths and weaknesses.

Custom shelving in a closet

At Old School Craftsman, we know the value of an effective closet space.

It can often feel like we have more stuff than we know what to do with, and we find that things that should be stored in the closet, take up our valuable living space.

Look back into 2022 Projects

The end of the year is fast approaching, and at times like these, I like to look back and reminisce over some of my favorite accomplishments of the year.

At Old School Craftsman, we always strive to create imaginative, careful, and unparalleled craftsmanship, but a few projects stick out in my mind as particularly impressive.
